Photos: MFA Artists Make Spectacular Debut at The Warhol

Posted on March 17, 2025

The School of Art’s MFA Class of 2025 presents new work in “Holding Still, Holding On,” a milestone exhibition at The Andy Warhol Museum, March 14-April 21.

You would have needed to pause — to hold still — to take in the expansive yet intimate work on display as guests filled the second-floor galleries at The Andy Warhol Museum on March 15.

The packed crowd came out for the opening reception of Holding Still, Holding On, this year’s Carnegie Mellon School of Art MFA thesis exhibition. On view through April 21, the exhibition brings together new work by Frankmarlin, Izsys Archer, Tingting Cheng, Chantal Feitosa-Desouza, and Max Tristan Watkins, whose practices span photography, painting, installation, and film. Their works delve into themes of memory, place, and belonging, offering a thought-provoking exploration of personal and collective histories.

The evening’s festivities featured welcome remarks from Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh President Steven Knapp, College of Fine Arts Dean Mary Ellen Poole, and School of Art Head Charlie White, who each celebrated the uniqueness of this moment — the first time the School of Art has co-presented its MFA show with The Warhol.
